Little Yellow Bags is a collaboration between my mom, Qi-Liu and myself, Suzuanne Burwash. My mom is a skilled seamstress and makes all the bags in Little Yellow Bags' collection.
what's in a name?
Little Yellow Bags is named after my mom's creativity and ingenuity.
She worked as a seamstress for brands such as Levi Strauss and GWG Jeans. Sometimes she would bring home waste fabric, with which she made many bags. Once she brought home a large amount of yellow fabric and proceeded to make many, many yellow bags, some of which were little. These bags proliferated our lives and at times seem to be in every corner of our home.
Little Yellow Bags honours the spirit of relentless making that keeps our lives fresh and full of little beautiful things.

about suzuanne
My work explores the richness of human experience, our connection to the land, animals, to ourselves and to each other. Working with Chinese symbols and myths, I present this iconography in a visual language stripped of stereotypes.
I am an artist with a BFA specializing in printmaking with a focus on lino printing and silk screening. I have completed a mural for MacEwan University exploring themes of community, sustainability, and the connection to the land and to one another.

My mom and I at our very first art market.
The sewing machine used is my mother-in-law's first sewing machine from 1968. Yes, that pin cushion, my mom did make it. She's very fond of lace.
